EBSA workshops announced for spring 2015
Two regional Workshops to facilitate the description of ecologically or biologically significant areas (EBSAs) have been announced by the Secretariat for the Convention on Biological Diversity. The first, focussing on the North East Indian Ocean, will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 23-27 March 2015. This will be followed by a Workshop covering the North West Indian Ocean and adjacent Gulf areas, held in Dubai on 20-25 April. Both Workshops will be preceded by a training day on EBSAs.
The primary objective of these Workshops is to facilitate the description of ecologically or biologically significant marine areas through application of the scientific criteria in annex I of decision IX/20 and other relevant compatible and complementary nationally and intergovernmentally agreed scientific criteria, in line with scientific guidance on the identification of marine areas beyond national jurisdiction, which meet the scientific criteria in annex I to decision IX/20.
