EBSA workshops announced for spring 2014
Three regional Workshops to facilitate the description of ecologically or biologically significant areas (EBSAs) have been announced by the Secretariat for the Convention on Biological Diversity. The first, focussing on the Arctic, will take place in Helsinki on 3-7 March 2014. This will be followed by a Workshop covering the NW Atlantic, held in Montreal on 24-28 March 2014, and Mediterranean Workshop in Malaga on 7-11 April 2014.
The primary objective of these Workshops is to facilitate the description of ecologically or biologically significant marine areas through application of the scientific criteria in annex I of decision IX/20 and other relevant compatible and complementary nationally and intergovernmentally agreed scientific criteria, in line with scientific guidance on the identification of marine areas beyond national jurisdiction, which meet the scientific criteria in annex I to decision IX/20.
